Africa ELTA 7th International Conference on English Language Teaching

in collaboration with ANELTA, Angola

Africa ELTA is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for its 7th Annual International Conference on ELT, which will be held on 11 - 13 May 2023 in Luanda, Angola.

Pre-Conference Event (PCE) on Africa ELTA Open Educational Resources (May 11, 2023)

The theme of the PCE is Open Educational Resources (OER) :Towards Localization for the African Context. We invite classroom teachers, faculty, graduate students, and academic staff to participate in two main strands related to English language teaching and learning in the African Context:

1- 30 min presentations about OER projects in the ELT African context to showcase efforts within institutions and/or communities of practice.

2- 45 min workshops related to OER creation and adaptation. Topics include creating OER from scratch, finding, using, adapting, refining, and sharing OER highlighting the steps and execution of the process to meet the needs of the African ELT context.

We encourage submissions from those who have already contributed to the initially launched Africa ELTA OER Bank of Resources as well as new submissions. Africa ELTA will publish the accepted submissions in the Africa ELTA Bank of Resources.

Main Conference (12-13 May 2023): ELT in Africa: Current Trends and Future Directions

We welcome proposals for:

Workshops (50 minutes): While grounded in theory and research, workshops should provide the participants with the opportunity to engage in doing hands-on activities that will enhance their classroom practice.

Panel discussions (90 minutes): We encourage a group of teachers and/or scholars (3-5) to propose and discuss a topic of relevance to the conference theme by examining its various dimensions including theoretical and practical implications.

Storytelling sessions (15 minutes): We are interested in storytellers who can share their stories (10 minutes) and discuss practical implications of such stories in the African ELT classroom (5 minutes).

Research-oriented sessions (25 minutes): We welcome sharing of findings from studies which have both theoretical/research and practical implications.
